"Influence on Health Behavior Change in the Adolescent Population" is a worthy example of a paper on child development. The study emphasizes the importance of regular feedback and monitoring conducted through surveys. Sixty adolescents from thirteen years of age to eighteen years were chosen with informed consent to observe improvement in health behavior. Family practice setting was the effective way to ensure children were provided with a natural environment that was comfortable. While the study has not given details as to what particular health behavior of children was under observation, but the general format of the study under the guidance of nurses had scientific validity when adolescents were divided into controlled or experimental groups.
The survey questionnaires were easy to use that could be easily filled up by the children. They were sent through email to each participant that ensured confidentiality and privacy within which the children were able to answer the question without fear or apprehension. Moreover, using the Likert scale considerably helped the children to measure their progress in achieving the target. The health of the children has become an increasing concern and the study shows that regular mechanism to evaluate and measure progress through surveys and motivational interviews is effective in changing the health behavior of adolescents.
Though the paper has used a lot of technical words, it has failed to define the independent and dependent variables and the characteristics of controlled and experimental groups which are vital parts of scientific study (Creswell, 2009). Though the study has used scientific terms, the lack of clarity in variables that are studied has significantly reduced its validity as required for scientifically correct conclusions.
Hence, one can conclude that while the research purpose is commendable, it gives a general indication as to the result without any scientific support.
