"Relevance of Charge Nurse Practises to a Nursing Educator" is a great example of a paper on care. Charge nurses are usually responsible for a nursing unit which includes the other nurses working in that unit and the patients, therefore any decision that they make will influence the quality of health care that is given to patients in that unit. In most hospitals, the role of charge nurses is usually assigned randomly to nurses without giving regard to whether the nurse gave that responsibility is qualified to handle it.
This has had the effect that the charge nurses are uncertain about their responsibilities which leads to impaired judgment and poor decision making which has an impact on the quality of nursing care that the patients receive (Burton and Ormrod, 2011). In order to avoid uncertainty among nurses, there is a need to develop a nurse training program that will equip all nurses with the necessary skills to run a nursing unit. Nursing educators should ensure that all student nurses have undergone the training therefore when hospitals choose charge nurses randomly he or she will be able to run the unit effectively. Impact/influence of the outcome The outcome of this research will be on how nurses are trained since it will be aimed at finding how the decisiveness of charge nurses can be improved through the education program involved in training nurses.
The research will be aiming at providing alternative ways that nursing educators can use in nurse training programs to ensure all professional nurses have the necessary skills to become charge nurses when called to do so. If the education program includes a training course that will enable all nurses to take up the roles of charge nurses effectively, then the standards of patient care are likely to improve. PICOT questions P- The population of this study will involve charge nurses responsible for nursing units with at least 10 patients and a staff of at least two or more other nurses I - the intervention in this study will include training nurses in the relevant skills that will enable them to take the roles of charge nurse effectively, it will include some management lessons and decision-making skills. C- The comparison group will include charge nurses who have never undergone any training in nursing professional developmental studies, which would have otherwise helped them to acquire skills to run nursing units effectively. O- The measurable outcome for this study will be the difference in how the trained charge nurses and those that have not undergone any developmental studies will handle different situations that require making some hard decisions. T- The outcome for this study will be measured for a period of one year after the charge nurses have completed their developmental studies in order to give ample time for the differences in handling nursing units to be manifest. Purpose statement The purpose of this research will be to find out whether nurses who have undergone training to gain management skills in nursing and decision making skills will perform better as charge nurses compared to those who have not undergone a similar type of training.
